THE
ALBUM
It all started
at 387 Penn Street in Pasadena California, gThe City of the
Roseh, where gun play is tit-for-tat and the sibling West
Coast Rap duo never had much to go on for food or the essentials
of everyday life. It was an existence of no bucks and nothing
but bad luck, living off the Los Angeles County welfare system
with two older sisters. Growing up in this ruff community
on the west side of Pasadena the brothers soon began hanging
around with the killers and drug dealers that roam the dangerous
city streets. Despite all the negativity surrounding them
POLO & D-ILL turned to music and began entertaining with
beats and free-style rap at the early age of 6 and 7 while
honing their skills by listening to the major rap artists
of the time that where and still are an inspiration to them;
TOO SHORT, DOCTOR DRE, SNOOP DOGG, DJ QUICK, TONE LOC, GHETTO
BOYS, EAZY E, and N.W.A. At the age of 13 and 14 POLO &
D-ILL joined the breaking crew VISION FUNKADELIC MOVEMENT
(V.F.M.) learning the Five Elements Of Hip-Hop while winning
many competitions in LA. Soon after they co-founded the underground
Rap group NEXT ERA, consisting of ORFANT, XTRA LARGE, POLO
and D-ILL. As members of NEXT ERA the bothers recorded many
tracks and auditioned for many night clubs and talent scouts.
However, after putting several years and hard work into both
V.F.M. and NEXT ERA their dreams of a record deal continued
to elude them. XTRA LARGE with majority support of the members
decided to change the groupfs name to the CROWN CITY KINGS
with the vision of turning NEXT ERA into the next WU TANG
CLAN. The group quickly grew to 10 strong but with so many
members POLO & D-ILL found it hard to explore and express
their true creativity and they soon decided to leave the group
and go it alone. As time passed POLO & D-ILL created a
style of their own and further perfected it by attending free-style
rap competitions where they won and lost many a battle. In
May of 2002 POLO & D-ILL had the very fortunate opportunity
to meet JIMMY gJTOHVANh PASCHAL, one of LAfs top re-mix producers,
who immediately heard their potential and included them on
gHATAH PROOFh, a compilation CD of Los Angelesfs top underground
rappers under HIP-HOP THEORY PRODUCTIONS. Although the CD
was never released commercially the appearing artists received
a lot of air play from the local college radio stations. In
the fall of 2003 JIMMY presented AUSTIN SAITO with a copy
of the gHATAH PROOFh CD and MONIQUE RECORDS quickly signed
POLO & D-ILL. PASCHAL-SAITO PRODUCTIONS in association
with STREET MIX PRODUCTIONS proudly presents POLO & D-ILL:
